Tohru Honda is a first year high school student. Her mother dies that year, leaving Tohru by herself. She stays with her grandfather for awhile, but then he had some house problems so Tohru decided to leave and not try and be a big burdin. She left her grandfather and began to live in a tent. The area in which Tohru was living on belonged to the Sohma family.

A boy by the name Yuki is one of the Sohma's and is the most popular guy in Tohru's high school. When he and Shigure discover that she was living in a tent, they invite her to stay with them. Tohru accepts but she said that in return, she would cook, clean, and any other housekeeping skills of hers.

As the story continues, she discovers the Sohma secret, and later discovers another secret which could put her in harms way.
